"This book, and its relative, the guide to East Africa, got me (and my husband) comfortably through 8 weeks of travel in East Africa. It was equally useful for the trip where I was a woman traveling alone, and the trip I took with my never-been-to-the-third-world dyed-in-the-wool- American husband. The only travellers who PERHAPS might not benefit from this book are people on top-shelf tours that ensure that the travellers' feet never really touch the ground. But I truly think that everyone else will find it well worth the few dollars and the few ounces in their luggage, whether that luggage is a matched leather set or a backpack. the history, the explanations of local occurrences, the accurate and pragmatic tips and techniques for getting around/eating/shopping/sleeping/safari-ing/living are difficult to survive without" Relax with this book when on Vocation or Holiday in Kenya. "I waited a long time to read this book, therefore I was very disappointed with the outcome. Pages of name dropping and casual references to animals and tribes. There was no meat or thread of interest to carry the reader through this literal journey. Compared to his other books this was a bomb." "We found this book to be extremely accurate and informative, both as we prepared for our 2 week trip and while we were in Kenya. The description of the "snake museum" was perfect - we read it out loud to the group as we stood in the park. Much of the information provided to us by our hosts from Nairobi matched what we already had learned from our reading. When we prepare for our next trip anywhere, we'll look first for a Rough Guide!" "If you buy just one book to accompany you on your travels to Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro, make this the one.

Written by the Mountain Club of Kenya with excellent narrative detailing the routes and variations for both peaks (technical and non technical) as well as a useful chapter on mountain health/ first aid.

The chapters detailing the geological history of these mountains are a bit dull (apologies to all you geologists out there) but provide a worthwhile diversion when killing time lounging around at camp (aclimatising).

PS Finding this book elsewhere can be a real challenge. It seems to go out of print on a regular basis." This book has wonderfull information on Kenya, well worth reading if you exchanging a Vacation House in Kenya.
