| The Rough Guide to Guatemala (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"My wife and I went to Guatemala in May of 2002. This is the only guide book we used and we were quite happy with it. In addition to information about various things to do (content was good and accurate) this book contains a lot of great extra information in the back such as chronology of the Maya, recent political history, explanations of indigenous culture, and recommended reading lists. Wow! The listing of hotels and places to eat was on target. The book has a pretty good section on Tikal too." If you are thinking about exchanging a Alternative Vacation Cottages in Guatemala, I would buy this book to take with you while in Guatemala. "While reading it at home it looked pretty complete and with good information. Once we were in Guatemala, I found that most of the places recommended were like the writer had not checked them himself or just written from what he had heard. I followed the writer's hints and checked it myself, like in some hotels I stayed. In some other cases, I found places that there were not included in the book and which should had been... Certainly the guide is not updated at all. Great dissapointment for such a highly rated book." Relax with this book when on Holiday in Guatemala. It would be so handy when you Exchange a Holiday Apartment in Guatemala. "We took the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet to Guatemala in March 2002, and found the RG generally more comprehensive, useful and accurate. The maps in both guides were pretty good, though a few more in colour would be benefical. Where the Rough Guide really excelled was the sheer amount of well-researched background information - Guatemala is a fascinating but complicated country and there were very readable sections about the ancient Maya, environment and human rights." Before exchanging a Vacation Property in Guatemala, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Guatemala. |

| Maya World: Guatemala, Belize, Southern Mexico (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"The book is an excellent introduction to the Mayan civilisation and the area that they inhabited. The book provides a sizeable amount of accurate and helpful information on all aspects relevant to the independent traveller. It has very good information on getting to and from each destination and accurate descriptions of places to stay. The text is enjoyable to read, well set out, contains some funny anecdotes and is not too bulky. The book is comparable to "Mexico and Central America" from the Footprint series. The Footprint book is bigger and would suit people travelling the whole of mexico, not just the south. Both books are easy to read but "The Maya World" is set out better as the text is less cramped. A very handy book to have." This book has supper information on Guatemala, well worth reading if you exchanging a Alternative Vacation Villa in Guatemala. "was sad to have this guide stolen on a bus in mexico. one of the best guide book i have used. the insight to mayan culture glyphs ect could be increased as it leaves you hungry for information, but this is obviously a plus point in some ways as well. worst point is for eating out, and is definately the most innacurate part of the book, many restaurants having gone long before or apparently having never existed. the area covered is great and coveres the perfect trip to central america." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Cottage to Exchange in Guatemala. |

| Lonely Planet Belize, Guatemala and Yucatan (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I agree with the earlier reviewers this guide is way out of date, prices are not even close, and places that no longer exsist. This might have been a good guide a few years ago but I would not rely on it today!" A wealth of information about Guatemala, a great book if you are thinking about exchanging a Vocation or Holiday Vocation or Holiday property in Guatemala. "If you are familiar with the Lonley Planet series you know what this book is about, and as with the other LP guides I found it very helpful during my trip. Lots of great info for the travler who likes to explore off the beaten path and the economy minded travler. Very helpful info concerning the ruin sites. Made my hole trip great! The only sad part was my visit to Playa Del Carmen. Last time I was there was over ten years ago when it was a small village with unpaved streets, now it has grown into a small version of Cancun. Oh! one other bit of advice, check out "A Tourist in the Yucatan" fun book!" Before exchanging a Alternative Vacation House in Guatemala, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Guatemala. "It was worth having both the Guatemala Lonely Planet Book and the Rough Guide as reference as both covered different points. The Lonely Plant was excellent for accomadation and travel and the Rough Guide was great for information on a particular place. It was great having the Guatemala Lonely Plant book which also covered Yucatan and Belsize which was ideal for our trip. Well done Lonely Planet on a wonderful guide to such an interesting part of Central America. Worth it!!" Before exchanging a Holiday Apartment in Guatemala, I would read this book while in Guatemala. |

| The Rough Guide to Central America: Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I have been traveling around the world for a while and this is the worst guide book I have ever used. The maps are inadequate. The information is far from complete. The descriptions seem to be more political propaganda than a picture of Central America. This book tells you what to think instead of letting you know what to expect. It took the joy out of traveling and it's lack of information put my safety at risk." Before exchanging a Vacation Casa in , I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in . "I found this book adequate for my needs of traveling from country to country in Central America over four months. It was lacking in some detail at points, but I enjoyed its easy to follow format and thought the maps were great. If you're spending just a bit of time in each country this is a great book to consider. If you are going only to one or two countries in the region, consider buying books specific to those countries. The format was easier to follow than lonely planet's central america guide." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Holiday in . | Tima Among the Maya: Travels in Beliza, Guatemala and Mexico (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I read this pretty quickly. There's no problem with knowing what the author is trying to say. I found the representation to be a little full of sad satire and sorry history lessens but then again the reality really has been horrific. I will hang on to this and use it as a reference. I always find it interesting the way several 1st person accounts of a like place will produce inconsistencies in attitudes and reactions." www.HomeIsAway.com great Alternative Vacation Casa to Exchange in Guatemala. "Ronald Wright takes us to Belize, Guatemala and the Yucatan, visiting various archeological sites and people along the way. This is a great travelogue with lots of history included. It is well researched including a glossary, notes, bibliography and index for the reader who wants to delve deeper. Good reading if you're planning on going to this part of the world." Relax with this book when on Vacation in Guatemala. It would be so handy when you Exchange a Vacation Villa in Guatemala. "A friend lent this book to me whilst I was travelling the Maya trail. I enjoyed it so much I decided to buy it once back in England. The story follows the travels of Ronald Wright starting in Belize, then taking a circular route through the Yucatan and Chiapas areas of Mexico, and Guatamala. Along the way, the author describes the people he meets, the local customs, and the often turbulent history. There is plenty of detail about the Mayan buildings and their complex constructions of calenders and measures of time. A most absorbing book." This book has best information on Guatemala, well worth reading if you exchanging a Alternative Vacation Cottage in Guatemala. |
