| The Xenophobe's Guide to the Danes (Xenophobe's Guide S.) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"After 2 years in Denmark this book still managed to provide insights into the Danes. I find myself quoting it when trying to discribe Denmark to others ... and even gave it to my Danish boyfriend to give him perspectives on what others see as 'Danish'. His constant 'you mean other people dont do that' where only interupted by his laughter. What is more it has been used as a textbook in a Danish Business School's cultural understanding classes (not my classes :-) and the Danish AIESEC (the worlds largest student organisation) offers this series to all the students participating in their international traineeship exchange programme - both those arriving in Denmark and those traveling to a 'Xenophobe' country.. what more recomendation do you need..." If you are thinking about exchanging a Holiday Apartments in Denmark, I would buy this book to take with you while in Denmark. "I admit to being a Dane, and reading this book my reactions alternated between amused pride and sincere embarrassment as I saw one layer after another of our national character accurately dissected, -but most of all I laughed! This book has a wonderful energetic sense of irony and humour, combined with a deep insight into the Danish culture and mentality. The only objection I have to some of the conclusions and observations is that they are rather obviously made in Copenhagen and apply the best to Danes from the capital. Denmark is a small country, but there is still some regional variance in our culture. For instance, people in Jutland have a better sense of humour than those in Copenhagen. I think a Copenhagen Dane might have laughed less... If you are going to Denmark, if you have travelled or lived there for a while, if you hate us, love us, or feel puzzled about us, or if you are a Dane yourself, you will almost certainly enjoy this book!" If you are thinking about exchanging a Vacation Properties in Denmark, I would buy this book to take with you while in Denmark. "A real life-saver. I've been living in Denmark for 4 months now and I bought this book just before I left - it has proved invaluable! It covers how the danes see themselves and their neighbours, social customs, etc., as well as trivia that would take you years to find out otherwise. One of the best things about this book is the writing style - it's to-the-point and humourous, making the book and entertaining read. If you really want to understand the danes then this book will fill you in on all the essential details." This book has best information about Denmark. | Lonely Planet Denmark (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Having traveled through SEA,Japan,Korea, and Latin America, and now Denmark with lp books, I am a loyal fan. The books do a great job of providing key information without being too chatty, pointing out cheap accomodations, and giving me all the info I need to figure out my own way around a country. The book on Denmark seemed fairly up to date and accurate. I primarily use the book as a starting point from which to get an idea of where I wanted to go, and it was great for that purpose. For anyone who wants to travel low-impact and low-budget in Scandinavia, I highly recommend lp Denmark." This book has supper information about Denmark. So take it with you when you Exchange a Holiday Cottage in Denmark. "We took our bikes to Denmark with us and rode around the country. We found this book very helpful. The hours and directions, and descriptions were quite accurate. Most things were rather expensive. The book give good background on historical places and interesting tidbits to checkout. I think that it is an essential book to bring with if you are traveling there. If you do plan to go biking - good luck finding good biking maps - we never found any!" A wealth of information about Denmark, a great book if you are thinking about exchanging a Vacation Vacation property in Denmark. "On viewing this book, I see it very useful to me.I will surely by one once I come to Denmark." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Property to Exchange in Denmark. "The new edition of the Lonely Planet guide is extremely useful for anyone thinking of travelling in Denmark. Just about everything you could want to know is covered, it's a small country so the book goes into detail about things outside the cities and towns such as cycling routes and festivals. Essential for anyone visiting Denmark, especially those who wish to spend some time there." If you are thinking about exchanging a Alternative Holiday Cottages in Denmark, I would buy this book to take with you while in Denmark. |

| "Time Out" Copenhagen (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Before going to Copenhagen, I purchased several guides...this is the one I used. Covers the usual castle, museum stuff but excels in the less usual stuff like club-life, small restaurants (try Ban-Gaw for Thai food and watch the human traffic on in the tacky old sex district of Istedgade),....prices are up-to-date, good info on train travel, good section on nearby Malmo.Lots of opinions...mostly right on. Could use a better map." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Holiday in Denmark. It would be so usefull when you Exchange a Holiday Cottage in Denmark. "An excellent guide. I was familiar with Copenhagen as a student 10 years ago and this book helped me right back into step. The general feel is spot-on and it's written for a more adventurous traveler than one just off the cruise ship. The book is irrepressibly positive, and perhaps overstates the charm and style of some sites - just like a guide book usually does. I thought the maps to be good, and they thoroughly cross-reference the entries. The addresses and hours seem to be correct. Copenhagen is an underrated European city; virtually untouched by the past ravages of war and living very much in the present day. If you're destination shopping, the city rates an 8+, and so does the guide. Bring, rent or buy a bicycle if you really want to go local." Before exchanging a Alternative Vacation Apartment in Denmark, I would read this book while in Denmark. "A well written book, with lots of very useful information. However, some of the restaurant reviews were very misleading, which was a big disappoitment. Our Danish friends took us to fashionable bars which were not even mentioned in the guide." If you are thinking about exchanging a Holiday Apartments in Denmark, I would buy this book to take with you while in Denmark. "This book is completely out of date. I visited Copenhagen over this new years and had this book as my guide. Not only did the book fail to mention that the prices in Copenhagen (and the rest of Denmark) are horrendous (£1.20 for a Snickers bar, £1.70 for a small bottle of coke), but it was misleading, the beautiful buildings it mentioned were covered in dirt, the numerous cafes which the Danes apparently loved to frequent open late and shut early, and the party atmosphere was more akin to a school disco. Im sure there are nice things to do in Copenhagen, just dont expect to find them in this book." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Cottage to Exchange in Denmark. "A great informative guide to Copenhagen. If you are visiting be sure to get this guide and visit Café Klimt and Café Bankeråt for a great atmosphere and good well priced food. Unless you are on an unlimited budget try to eat in the cafes (most are just as good as the restaurants). The friendly well proportioned city has an excellent public transport system and with this guide you see all the best bits!" | Lonely Planet Finland (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I've just been to Helsinki for a few days, and although I didn't get the chance to test this book's usefulness in other parts of the country, it certainly proved worth having just for Helsinki. It tells you all the basic stuff, and some of the interesting stuff. I was able to get from the airport by bus and walk to my hotel from the bus station simply by glancing at the book on the flight to Helsinki. Everything is very clear and nicely laid out, and it's a handy size too. I hope I'll return to Finland; this is the first thing I'll pack." This book has supper information on Denmark, well worth reading if you exchanging a Holiday Villa in Denmark. "But if you happen to be in Finland, the only thing you'll need to sample is the local alcoholic beverages." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Vacation in Denmark. It would be so usefull when you Exchange a Alternative Vacation Property in Denmark. "I visited this country with my Finnish boyfriend in 2002. THe book was a great help. It helped me decide which tourist spots, shopping areas, historical sites and places of interest to check out. The only part that I didn't like was that it didn't touch too much on the smaller cities of Finland, but in general, it's a good buy. Definitely worth it, but make sure you get "Culture Shock, Guide to Finland" if you do travel to Suomi. Having a cultural view of this beautiful country is important." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Casa to Exchange in Denmark. "... I think this guide is magnificent, all transport links and their service qualitiy is here - including contact tel. numbers and where to go, which are invaluable. Great work, I have been in Finland for 8 months and I still use it for reference (even my Finnish fiancee is impressed)!... I dont need train/bus times, these invariably change anyway. Keep up the good work, it encouraged me to buy the Sweden guide (only 4* for this one though)" Before exchanging a Vacation Cottage in Denmark, I would read this book while in Denmark. "I think the book is great, I have lived in Finland for over a year now with my Finnish Hubbie, and we both have discovered new things from the book. My father also enjoyed it and found the history part very interesting, as his knowledge of Finland was limited. Yes some of the info was a bit out of date, some resturants are no longer there for example, but that is always the case." Before exchanging a Alternative Holiday House in Denmark, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Denmark. "I bought this book a year ago now and found it pretty poor! I've been to finland 10 or more times and feel I know the country and its people a lot more than the author of this book! His descriptions of Finnish attitudes and temproment are so stereotyped and dated. Fascinating Museums, Buildings and Shops do not seem to feature! I can not comprehend how some one could produce this kind of book, about such a fascinating and unique place! Finland is a dynamic vibrant and varied place and has a lot more to offer than this guide would suggest! Its a real dissapointment, it does however carry some useful logistical info, trains, hotels/ hostels ect. But most of this info can be found on the net or from the many Tourist Infomation Offices in Finland. I do hope he's done some home work for this edition!" Before exchanging a Alternative Vacation Cottage in Denmark, I would read this book. |

| Lonely Planet Scandinavian Europe (Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"After using several Lonely Planet books, I was thoroughly disappointed with this guide. The guide stuffs Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Do that many people hit Greenland and the main Scandinavian countries in the same trip to justify putting it in the same book? The result is that the book is short on detail, even the basic "Things to Do" that you can find in a competing Scandinvian guide. The guide is about 1/3 the size of just the Finland book, but about the same price." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Cottage to Exchange in Denmark. "Lets face it this book is for backpackers trying to sqeeze by in an expensive place like Scandinavia. If you want to read about the region than your going to need another book. Outside the major citites this book probably lacks coverage but in the cities it is a completely different story. I did some major hosteling in Scandinavia due to budget constraints. Many of these hostels were the nicest ones I have ever seen. If you want to hostel around Scandinavia this book is the most useful lonely planet I have yet to purchase out a dozen or so." If you are thinking about exchanging a Vacation Properties in Denmark, I would buy this book to take with you while in Denmark. "A useful guide to the region including counry guides to Iceland, Greenland, the Faroes, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark as well as the Norwegian artic island of Svalbard. This guide provides, as with all Lonley Planet guides, country overviews and detailed guides to cities and regions in the featured countries including useful addresses and phonenumbers for hostels and local transport. Probably more useful actually in the country than as a pre-travel read it provides all the on-hand information you'll ned when you actually land as well as advice on travelling between these Scandinavian countries. Very useful read if not essential before setting off on your own to explore this region but probably more of a back-up if you're planning a package tour." Before exchanging a Vacation Apartment in Denmark, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Denmark. |

| Lonely Planet Copenhagen (Lonely Planet City Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This book was extremely informative, all information is clear and concise and was easy to navigate through. We wanted an easy to use, novice guide on what to do/where to go/what to see/where & what to eat etc. for a short break in the city and this book told us everything we wanted to know & more. This helped us to plan a full itinerary for our trip prior to us arriving - and therefore, helped us to not waste a minute of our precious holiday time! Have nothing really bad to say about the publication - it is well written, interesting & informative; without being too detailed/long-winded. Would appeal greatly to music lovers - as it has a special section devoted to the famous Jazz Festival." Before exchanging a Vocation or Holiday Casa in Denmark, I would read this book. "The book is typical Lonely Planet, which translates to a good guide book. The list of hotels and restaurants is long and descriptive. I was surprised that it did not include a day trip to Malmo as an option. The sightseeing section is good. The walking tours section is efficient. However, this book has easily the worst cover photo I have seen on a travel book. It depicts some geek - probably one of the writers' friends - standing behind a Royal Palace Guardsman. LP, for your own good, find a better photo for the next printing run." www.HomeIsAway.com great Alternative Vacation Villa to Exchange in Denmark. "This book was published in June 2001, not necessarily what you would call the most up to date/definitive guide. Nonetheless, the experts at lonely planet have once again proved that they are the best in the business. The guide contains everything you need to plan and enjoy your trip. Includes a very useful section on walking tours. Although there are only 2 listed, it puts the entire city in a nutshell, with all the major attractions, a map and what to see when you get there. The Where To Stay section was a bit of a let down though, I would recommend checking out the internet as there are plenty variety more than what was listed in the guide. Then again, its not a guide to hotels in Copenhagen, so what are you going to expect!" This book has a wealth of information about Denmark.
