| The Rough Guide to Chile (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"having spent a couple of months travelling through chile, i got to know my rough guide well, and had chance to compare to many of the other guide books out there, there are speciality books which cover other areas better and in more detail, some only available in chile. but of the mainstream guides this is definately the best. the cultural information is where the rough guides stand out, in fact a couple of our favorite places in Chile didnt even warrant a mention in one of the better known guide book series. the section on accomodation was the most lacking although occasionaly useful, as none of the guide books seem to have discovered the backpackers hostels which cover chile. but aside from this if you want a guide to chile, this is one of the best." This book has fantastic information on Chile, well worth reading if you exchanging a Alternative Holiday Casa in Chile. "The Rough Guide is full of useful, accurate information ( a little out of date) - but the writers lack a certain enthusiasm for this country. An enthusiasm that can be found in other books such as the Open Road guide." If you are thinking about exchanging a Vocation or Holiday Villas in Chile, I would buy this book to take with you while in Chile. | Travels in a Thin Country: Journey Through Chile (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I picked up this book in preparation for my upcoming travels and have been disappointed. It somehow manages to make Chile sound as alluring as a mid west strip mall. Don't waste your time and money." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation House to Exchange in Chile. "Although the writer's attitude might be construed as slightly condescending and arrogant, she is truly a gifted writer who often just teases you with her stories true to mission of "travel literature"--that of encouraging the reader to visit. Her writing style is so eloquent that it is hard to put down. The historical perspective was very helpful in spite of her obvious political leanings. Reading this book might make you concerned for her liver however as she does focus often on the alcohol consumed and the inevitable hangover. I was particularly moved by her chapter on Santiago and the darker side which most travellers would probably never experience. I read it as I travelled through Chile and found it a wonderful companion." A wealth of information about Chile, a great book if you are thinking about exchanging a Alternative Holiday Alternative Holiday property in Chile. "I could probably have lived a full and happy life without ever visiting Chile, but after reading this book I'm determined to go. Sara Wheeler's account of a North-South journey through the "thin country" is entertaining, well written, funny and insightful. Towards the end of her trip she wangles her way to Antarctica with the Chillean navy and this led to another excellent travel book. Highly recommended" Before exchanging a Vocation or Holiday House in Chile, I would read this book while in Chile. |

| Lonely Planet Chile and Easter Island (Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This is for certain one of the best Lonely Planet guides I came across (and I do have a very large collection). Perhaps aided by the fact that Chile is a relatively small country, yet stretching from the tropical to the antarctic areas, and by the relative homogeneity of the country in terms of society and culture, the author and editors have done an excellent job in collecting and putting together all the best information a traveller to Chile would need. I know Chile very well, and can witness that this information is up-to-date, correct, unbiased, and altogether an indispensable tool for any traveller, providing all necessary data for the more well-off and for 'backpackers' alike. The information is concise and clear. Everything is excellently written, thus ensuring real pleasure too. The sections on politics, history and society are excellent too. Altogether, it is a great companion while travelling in Chile or dreaming of Chile." www.HomeIsAway.com great Alternative Vacation House to Exchange in Chile. "While shopping for a guidebook for my first visit to Chile, this book (the previous edition of it) looked like the most comprehensive guidebook available. It was extremely helpful for both choosing what places to visit and how to visit them. As some other reviewers noted, there were some weaknesses and omissions and some information was out of date, but the current edition of the book is likely to be more up-to-date. Anyway, if you need your whole trip laid out for you, you are probably better off joining a tour group. I found the Lonely Planet Trekking in the Patagonian Andes was a good complement to this book. I certainly wish all the information had been available in a single book, but given the amount of detail in both the Chile and Patagonian Andes books, I don't begrudge Lonely Planet too much." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Vacation in Chile. It would be so usefull when you Exchange a Vacation Property in Chile. "I'm not quite sure the other reviewers looked at the same guide book. This one has plenty of opinions (like telling you what restaurants are expensive, what guesthouses are gloomy, etc.) and, of course, it's "outdated"----any guidebook is out of date the moment it's published and the LP folks tell you that upfront. I would have appreciated more on the Torres del Paine, but I could say the same of Footprints or other common guides to Chile. If you expect everything in a guidebook to be fully current and the opinions to be exactly what you need, you should stay home and leave the traveling to people who actually want to experience the world." Before exchanging a Alternative Holiday House in Chile, I would read this book while in Chile. "I have used several Lonely Planet Guides over the last few years, but the best by far is the guide to Chile. I cannot comment on its usefulness for travellers visiting Easter Island, but for mainland Chile,as well as Chilean and Argentine Tierra del Fuego it is a fantastically accurate, well considered travellers handbook. Maps are clear and easy to use, reccomended hotels and restaurants are almost invariably good, and the attention to detail in descriptions of even the smallest towns strikes the right balance providing good information for travellers on varying budgets, and with a wide range of interests. The section on Patagonia, should be used in conjunction with the LP guide to trekking in Patagonia if you want to get right off the beaten track. As a fly fisherman , used to finding my way about countries when there is absolutely no written help for fishermen available (understandably!) I found this to be the only guide I have ever used that had any useful information at all." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Holiday in Chile. It would be so usefull when you Exchange a Alternative Holiday Apartment in Chile. "A "must buy" book for anyone thinking of visiting Chile. I have used a number of Lonely Planet guide books and this one continues in the tradition of being well informed and well laid out for easy reading and access.....Don't go to Chile without it!" Before exchanging a Vacation Villa in Chile, I would read this book. |

| Lonely Planet: Trekking in the Patagonian Andes (Walking Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I am using the latest (thid ed.) on my second trip to South America. It an indispensable resource with very accurate text and maps which are quite accurate to use even if you you don't have a topo (yeah I know, but maps are not always easy to buy here). The routes carefuly prepared...this new edition has a whole lot of new trails. I'm also finding it up to date. One thing is maybe that the authors could have given better coverage to some areas such as the Pumalin. But this is more than enough material to spend a couple of summers down here anyhow, even if you just go for it! I definitely feel anyone that wants to trek in this region will be sorry if you don't have this book. Enjoy! Feel free to contact me privately for any info. Ryan" Relax with this book when on Vacation in Chile. It would be so handy when you Exchange a Vacation House in Chile. "A typical LP trekking guide book. Very thourough and detailed, with good maps and and trek descriptions. Useful tips concerning where to buy trekking supplies and accessories in remote areas. Makes possible solo trekking even at most difficult treks. The language section is appropriate and does not double those of other LP South American guidebooks, concentrating on trekking-related phrases and words. The only weak point is probably the language. In my opinion, an average trekker, whose native language is not English, will stumble a lot upon many of the phrases and words used in the text." Relax with this book when on Alternative Vacation in Chile. It would be so handy when you Exchange a Alternative Vacation Villa in Chile. "I really recommend this book as a must if you want to do any serious walking in Chile. The book lists all the essentials to bring and what to expect, even where to get camping gas. The walks are selected in order of difficulty and days, with photos of what you will see on the way and where camping and huts are located. I managed to walk round chile for 2 months without the aid of any expensive group travel and with little Spanish, just armed with my LP. The walks selected, especially the torres del paine are spectacular, its a definite must for the would be walker!!!" Before exchanging a Vacation Villa in Chile, I would read this book. |

| A Nation of Enemies: Chile Under Pinochet (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I have lived in Chile for close on 4 years now. I am not sure it will ever be possible to fully understand the Chilean psych. However - this book does bring you an inch or two closer to doing so. It certainly helps you understand why Chilean think and react the way they do to the subject of the dictatorship. However I believe that before being published in paperback -this book should have an additional chapter on the last decade and the dramatic changes that have taken place since 1991." Relax with this book when on Alternative Vacation in Chile. It would be so handy when you Exchange a Alternative Vacation House in Chile. "They should make a movie about this even tought we we have films like missing or waking the dead. they should make one about pinochet himself he is an infimous figure who took everything when the oppritunity was right a true tyrant in every saince of the word and the book it self shows this. every one should reixamine history even this one." This book has fantastic information on Chile, well worth reading if you exchanging a Vocation or Holiday Villa in Chile. "Constable and Valenzuela avoid the usual partisanship that covers Chilean issues in which you either think Allende was perfect or Pinochet was. They show how the Socialists overplayed their hand and how Pinochet did as well, only to a larger extent. They show how conservatives defended the murderous regime and used the country as a testing ground for the flawed economics of Milton Friedman. It is sad to see how anyone could defend the general's iron-handed rule but unfortunately American conservatives showed their lack of morals by doing so for a considerable period of time. The authors discuss most every issue of Chilean life and how it was affected by the government of Pinochet and go into why the dictator fell as well. A very complete and well-done work on the topic." If you are thinking about exchanging a Alternative Holiday Casas in Chile, I would buy this book to take with you while in Chile. |
