"A very funny book. He has a great knack for humour, and bringing characters to life. Quirkiness and eccentricity abound, both from the author, and the people he meets.

The main trouble with the book is that the second half is a lot less entertaining than the first. As soon as he crosses the channel, language creates a barrier that he seldom succeeds in crossing, so he spends much of his time rather bored. There are still great moments though.

"An avid user of Special Places to Stay (especially the Spain and British B&B guides), I was intrigued by their new pubs guide. It's everything that you'd expect from the other guides; interesting to browse through, easy to use and to find the right place (symbols, maps etc) and there seems to be a real emphasis on food which is what many of us look for in a good pub. "Recently I visited Wales for a walking holiday and took this book alang with me, out of the book I did 5 of the walks from easy to moderate and this book was very helpful. Easy to understand directions, places to visit whilst walking, if you are a dog lover this book tells you when and where you can take your dog and let free to roam. "I found this a very disappointing book.The author seemed to be pre-occupied with other matters, and spending time avoiding her fans and other members of the male fraternity.The book seemed more and more an effort.I didn't enjoy this book at all and would suggest that Josie concentrated in her cycling rather than her writing if this was anything to go by.Its the first of the authors books I have read,so perhaps I am being too critical,but I think it deserved more." "Having read Wind in my Wheels I was really looking forward to a home based book which just might inspire me to 'get on my bike'.
Unfortunately there was little in the book to inspire. Josie has tried too hard to make a basically unexciting ride around England & Wales seem exciting and funny by padding it out with her vivid, but rather silly, imagination (read about the 'terrorist's bag left on the pavement in the Isle of Wight to see what I mean.) In a further attempt to make the ordinary interesting she gives the impression that Britain is populated by people who are either weird, unpleasant or talk too much.
My advice is don't waste your money or your precious reading time. For real richness in travel literature try Dervla Murphy -superb!!" This book has fantastic information about Wales. So take it with you when you Rent a Vacation Property in Wales.

"ok, ok, i'm not completely finished reading this book, but i can tell you that what i'vew read so far has been astonishingly interesting and just so easy to read! it even gave me a crisis of conscience concerning my choice of university course, and i feel that a book that moves you in any way is a book that you should own. the writing is both interesting and informative, captivating and convincing. i honestly am glad that i own this book, and now i want the Welsh version, because the English one was so so good!" "Dr Davies modestly titled his book 'A History of Wales". A wise decision as history can be difficult to define when so much is based on subjective information and story telling passed down over many centuries.

Yet this is a masterful book, probably the best book on Welsh history to date. It is clear, factual but never tedious. Above all, it places Welsh history where it belongs; alongside English and Scottish history, the latter two dominating British text books for many years.

It is very tempting to become overly romantic about Wales, in a way that distorts historical facts. The relationship between Wales and England is a good exmaple. John Davies deals with these conflicts of interest in an honest and illuminating way, remaining objective whilst never failing to under-portray Wales.

"Before I go on and express my feelings towards the book, I would like to bring to the previous reviewer's attention that Imran Khan is not Indian, but Pakistani. Yes he is from the Indian SubContinent, but not from India.

I feel that this book most definately showed a vulnerable side of Diana. In my opinion she was always looking for some type of acceptance and happiness in life and just when she was so close to getting what she wanted, she was gone. This book is a very well written and sensitive account of Diana's last love and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about that part of her life not many people had known." "After reading this book, I am convinced that the author speaks the truth. Hasnat Khan's name comes up in several books, and they all state Diana felt strongly for him. I do believe she was with Dodi Fayed to make Mr. Khan jealous. I certainly can picture her with a heart surgeon more easily than I can with a playboy who didn't know what to do with all his money. I also read Paul Burrell's book, "A Royal Duty" and he alludes to Diana's true love, though he doesn't give him a name. He does say it was not Dodi. I believe that had Diana lived, she would have possibly married Hasnat Khan, or at least maintained a loving relationship with him. She didn't know Dodi well enough to even think of marrying him; the relationship was simply a summer fling. It's sad that she did not live to see that happiness with Dr. Khan come to fruition."
