"Finally Sweden has been included in the Lonely Planet family of travelling books. Not the cheapest country or the first you think of when someone says back-packing. This is the first edition and it is easy to tell with numerous spelling misstakes and missing facts. Sure Sweden is quite expensive, but why recommend McDonalds in every city, there are other inexpensive and really good restaurants in this country. A brief chapter covers walking and hiking in Sweden, but there are so much more than that to be said about the subject. So who should buy this guide? It is good when it comes to covering travelling within Sweden between small cities and some of the top attractions, but lacks depth." "Sweden is a wonderful travel destination. It is beautiful country that manages to be both very tranquil and very dynamic. However, like most Americans, I was totally ignorant about Sweden. "Once month ago I was offered a job in Stockholm and since I love the city and the country I have decided to go. Since I have been in Sweden several times and in several places (Lund, Malmo, Goteborg, Uppsala, Stockholm or Lulea) I wanted to buy a good Sweden guide that could give me a better knowledge of the country, its history. culture and people. I looked for several time and I found this one that gives you a very good prespective on how it is life upthere. I wouldn't considere it as a Travel Guide. If you are going to travel just for some weeks you will probably find better books (Lets Go or Lonely Planet). But if you really want to know more about the country then this is your book!" "This book is great for a good overview of the entire country--the history, the people, the food, the main attractions. It explains about the different parts of the country. Some of the pictures are just sterotypical Sweden--Sweden is much more diverse then people realize. They have immigrants from many countries. Scandinavia is a beautiful place. The museum details are not up to date, but this is hard because they change often and can be closed for various reasons. Be sure to do research before you go there if you have specific places you want to see. Otherwise just head over and wander the streets and you will find great stuff. This is more of a book to read before you go rather then to carry around with you while you are there. The Iceland Insight Guide is great. As a side note: I lived in Stockholm, Sweden for one year working. I visited all of the Scandinavian countries and Finland while I was there." This book has a wealth of information about Sweden. "Reared as a boy by her charismatic, kingly father, and the subject of scandalous gossip regarding her bed-sharing with a female companion, Queen Christina cast aside her crown in favour of the easy life. Buckley's book is packed with action and humour, skilfully side-stepping much of the tortured politics that makes so many other books about Swedish history so difficult to take. But while nothing can fault Buckley's multilingual research, her honesty can backfire: Christina comes across as sad, lonely, and ultimately a trifle stupid. Nowhere is this more apparent than in her grasping attempts to hang onto power, even as she capriciously rejects responsibility. The flighty way she summons the philosopher Descartes, only to indirectly cause his death is another example of her regal self-absorption.
