At times I have had a schizophrenic response ro my native Irish Province, but the silver linings were always my memories of people and places. I applaud the sentiments of my compatriot, Mr Forbes: this book is an excellent read. Whether you read with a glass of the Bush to hand or not, it will make you laugh, it will make you 'sit-up' with it's passing words of wisdom, and certainly it made me shed a tear or two. "No other source has painted the picture of what Northern Ireland in the 1970s was like. Nairac was a fascinating if bizarre character and the only frustrating thing about the book is that we don't know what happened to him or why. But it is a great story that would make a excellent film and adds to one's understanding of the troubles better than any straightforward history book.

The half page introduction doesn't provide any plausible background to the research methods and source material employed and to that degree it is virtually impossible to make a constructive value judgement on this material..."
