"This guidebook provides good advice on the major walking routes in New Zealand, but very little gets mentioned in the blurb about the seasons when the walks can be carried out. Having come to NZ in their winter, only two of the walks are possible, the others being on paths closed or too dangerous in snowy conditions.

"Not the book I thought it would be.
I bought this book along with - the rough guide to New Zealand, as I am planning to live there for the better part of a year. However this particular book contains more information on imagrating for life and starting a fresh. Not what i was needing.
But it does still contain a wealth of usefull information on living in NZ, but has a very dated feel to it. Im sure that there are beter books on the market if you are planning to move out there, the rough guide was the one for me.

"I found thins book to be not at all helpfull to me in moving to New Zealand. In fact I found it to be very out of date and the back section that talks about the Kiwi people and their way of life seemed depressing to me. I found the book to be constantly stereo typeing Kiwis. Sheep, beer, rugby etc. I think that the information in this book was true 10 years ago but a lot has changed in New Zealand in that time, especially in the cities. The information in this book is all available on the internet and it is constantly updated there." "I read this book before i went on a vacation to New Zealand last year. It was fairly informative. If you have absolutely no knowledge of the country, this book will be very helpful. However books such as this one are not extremely useful, even if they were updated each year. (which this book isn't) The section about Television in New Zealand was outdated. This book makes it seem that even the best satellite service will not compare to even cable in the US. In other words, their television offerings are scarce. However, I found that to be untrue. Sky TV offers many channels and has good variety. This is just an example of how this book cannot possibly keep you informed about a rapidly changing country like New Zealand. The point is, if you really want the scoop on living in New Zealand, ask your friends who've visited for information. An even better way is to search on the internet. "The Goddards are go-getters, with a positive approach to life who aren't afraid of a bit of hardwork and using their own initiative. That's why I read this book. I really just wanted to get a better idea of how such a move would make us feel, and how we would react to it. Research for the everyday details (how much things cost, weather etc) can all be found elsewhere quite easily, but a real perspective on the most important thing - your sanity - cannot!

This book was a great insight and very inspirational. If you think you have anything in common with the Goddard family outlook and approach to life, this book will be just right for you. Very easy to read and uncomplicated, you really can get a true sense of how your first year might be. If you aren't remotely like the Goddards, then this might be an eye-opener for you, a great deal can be learned from their approach to it all.

"It's a map. It's the same scale as most of the other maps you'll find of New Zealand. It has the same islands, placenames, colours as other maps. I compared lots in Stanfords before choosing the Rough Guide map.

Why this one? Well, it's made of some clever material that makes it tough, rip-proof and waterproof, but still easy to fold, unlike thicker laminated maps. There's enough detail on the map for driving around New Zealand. And it shouldn't rip if you're arguing about directions whilst doding sheep on state highway one." "The rough guide to New Zealand book makes me even more excited than I already was, now I cant wait to visit.
In the first opening pages you get detailed maps of the whole country, north and south islands, then some amazing pics of NZ. This guide is cram packed full of usefull tips, starting on how to get there, all the way to food and drink, even geting a job.
Each and every part of NZ is described in detail, down to such facts as the population size through to the best places to walk and eat.
Dont expect colourful images all the way through, this guide realy does not need them, you find 12 pages at the beging to wet your apatite.
