| The Xenophobe's Guide to the Dutch (Xenophobe's Guide S.) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This book is written in a light-hearted way by Rodney Bolt - an Irish man who lives in Amsterdam. This dinky book informs about such things as nationalism and identity, tradtion, sense of humour and leisure. It seems to be a very good read as part of preparation of visiting the Netherlands because you'll know what to expect of most people." Relax with this book when on Alternative Vacation in Netherlands. It would be so handy when you Rent a Alternative Vacation House in Netherlands. "In preparation to move to Holland I decided to get this book, it gave me a great overview of what the Dutch are like..... my friend who has been living in Holland for 2 years was crying with laughter: 'This is exactly what they are like!'. This is a good fun look at other nationalities. I am going to see what the author has to say about us!!!!!!" This book has best information about Netherlands. So take it with you when you Rent a Vacation Villa in Netherlands. "I have been living in the States for some time know and of course think back a lot of The Netherlands. When I read this book it makes me laugh . It is very accurate and doesn't give you the avarage american impression. ( cool those hashbars and the redlightdistrict!!)The book made me very proud to de Dutch. I would recommend it to anyone interested in The netherlands !!" Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Vacation in Netherlands. It would be so usefull when you Rent a Alternative Vacation Apartment in Netherlands. "Americans might think the Xenophobe books to be "racist" as they try to sum up entire nations of people stereotypically. But, while it was often off the mark, it did help me to understand some things about my Dutch friend, and facilitated our communication. I've got to go clean the house before he comes to visit. :)" If you are thinking about renting a Vocation or Holiday Houses in Netherlands, I would buy this book to take with you while in Netherlands. "This guide to the Dutch is the best book I've read about us (yes, I'm Dutch) in many years. None of your clogs and windmills fairy tales, no boring statistics either, but a pretty accurate insight into the Dutch society and the Dutch ways. It's a funny and tongue-in-cheek book, that very often had me laughing out loud and saying things like "Come on, we don't do things like that!", only to realise a few seconds later that we do." A wealth of information about Netherlands, a great book if you are thinking about renting a Alternative Holiday Alternative Holiday property in Netherlands. |

| Berlitz Dutch Travel Pack (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Having lived in The Netherlands for a couple of years I found this little phrase book a godsend! It is small enough to carry with you and has everything you need inside from basic expressions to travel, sightseeing, shopping, eating out, accomodation, leisure and health. You get lots of little hints about the way of life there which can be confusing for a first time visitor and each section in the book is colour coded to make finding things easier when you need them. Dutch can be a difficult language to get your teeth around so the pronunciation section is very helpful, and there are hints throughout in brackets as well. There is also a small dictionary at the back of the book. I think this book is useful for both the tourists and people who are going to spend a little more time in the country than a holiday. After all, it saw me through two years there!" A wealth of information about Netherlands, a great book if you are thinking about renting a Holiday Holiday property in Netherlands. "I bought this book because it was the cheapest one on the shelf and I regreting now spending those meager 15 bucks. The only good thing about it (hence one star) is it's size. (didn't take much space in the baggage) While in amsterdam I couldn't even translate road signs. Anyway, save your money for pimsleur. Most of the dutch speak excellent english, however, they do speak dutch between themselves, and if you don't want to be left out. You would need a more comprehesive study guide." Before renting a Alternative Holiday Property in Netherlands, I would read this book. "I am a student, who is traveling to belgium and the netherlands this summer, so i thought i would learn some french and dutch basics. the berlitz dutch phrase book is quite helpful for someone who only speaks english fluently and some spanish. it gives pronunciation guides with each word, which is quite helpful considering how difficult each phrase looks upon first glance. Once you learn a bit, you start seeing the similiarities between english and dutch, which help you remember it in the long run. it includes basic expressions/accomodations, eating out, travel, sightseeing, stores & services, health, reference, and dictionary sections. another helpful tool would be to get the accompanying cassette tape, which lets you hear the pronunciations and helps you learn better, although they speak a little fast for the basic beginner." Before renting a Vocation or Holiday Property in Netherlands, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Netherlands. |

| The Rough Guide Amsterdam Map (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Well printed, detailed and informative. This map has everything you need - a large scale map of the town centre and a less detailed map of the whole city and surrounding areas. There are indexes of street name and of tourist attractions. The central area plan shows many hotels and restaurants and the main tram routes, and is sensibly colour coded. It all seems to be accurate and up to date. The best thing is that it is printed on a kind of tough waterproof plastic. I have folded and unfolded it any number of times, stuffed it into pockets and taken it out in the rain, and it is still like new." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vacation Property to Rent in Netherlands. "If you are looking for a superb map of Amsterdam with detailed streets that will keep you from falling in a canal DO NOT look any further. Will last many trips due to its waterproof design. Too bad I lost mine after a trip to a coffeeshop!" Before renting a Alternative Vacation Cottage in Netherlands, I would read this book. |

| Get Lost!: The Cool Guide to Amsterdam (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Amsterdam is a city for adventures and exploration and sadly, without a little pre-planning you may find yourself going round in circles, whilst only making the occasional find. This book is the Indiana Jones of the guide book world. My only gripe is that I have been to Amsterdam twice without it, but this year will be different. Written in a style anyone in the free-minded and spirited generation will greatly appreciate - it prepares you to embark on exploring this City of Deviants with an enthusiasm and insight that is rarely found. The map in the middle pages I found was fine, easy enough to read and highlight those streets containing the dens of iniquity. If you are planning on Amsterdam this year - buy this book, but hey, buy it anyway and your alternative travel arrangements may soon be on the back burner... It is that good." This book has best information on Netherlands, well worth reading if you renting a Vacation Villa in Netherlands. "We didn't rate this book that much. We had both been to Amsterdam 2-3 times before seperately and thought this 'different' guide book would help. Unfortunately it is aimed really towards backpapers and americans. It is simply laid out with no detail really on each area of amsterdam. A good cheap guide for backpackers. Sorry but wasn't our guide to go with...." Before renting a Vocation or Holiday Property in Netherlands, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Netherlands. "Bo! Just what I was looking for man! Great info about everything you need to know to survive in the world's best city. Everything from hitchhiking to hemp stores, skateboarding to smart shops. The reviews are spot on, and it tells you everything the other guides don't. If you're going to Amsterdam to bun, then this is the guide for you. The map is kinda lame, so get a different one. Overall though, a must buy for anyone going to Dam for the alternative scene." Before renting a Vocation or Holiday Apartment in Netherlands, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Netherlands. "When I was transferred to Amsterdam for a year I went out and bought several guides to the city. A friend gave me this book as a going away present and told me that it was what I "really needed to get to know Amsterdam". This is not your parent's travel guide (actually...depends on your parents). Get another guide to find the art museums and the five star hotels. This is the guide to find out where everyone is hanging out, buying their drugs and their music. I especially recommend it to find some laid back non-touristy coffee shops and some toursity but fun off beat museums. Only problem is the price, a bit steep for such a short guide, but it is in the end worth the price." Relax with this book when on Vacation in Netherlands. It would be so handy when you Rent a Vacation Property in Netherlands. "For the price this book leaves much to be desired. It's worth maybe half the price considering much more informative books can be had for a little more. It's very amatuerish looking, with very few B&W only pictures." Before renting a Holiday Property in Netherlands, I would read this book. "This book of the Amsterdam "UNDERGROUND" is a "inexpensive" and junky guide that will only waste your money. I was able to find much better information on the COOL SPOTS and GOOD Coffee Shops surfing the net in only 1 hour. THIS GUIDE IS ... USELESS ..." Before renting a Vacation House in Netherlands, I would read this book while in Netherlands. |
Learn Dutch

| Learn Dutch Now! 9.0 (Software)Customer Rating: Learn Dutch Now! 9.0 comes with two CDs, one of which has various key sections--useful "survival phrases", fun activities, conversations and practising speech against the voice of a native speaker. The other CD has a thorough grammar tutorial. This combination is certainly a valuable one for people who are serious about learning a language, and the product is clear and easy to use: in role-plays, phrases are highlighted in a box and their English translations placed underneath, while the voice recognition software allows you to measure your own voice against that of a native speaker and the games hone the things that have been learned. Sections are tailored to various activities, such as getting around, going out and business situations, while at any point you can call up a grammar tutorial that will explain a topic in more detail. The section on survival phrases will be of much use to those who have already reached a basic level. There are several practice dialogues based on common situations--in the hotel, the bar, the airport, etc.--with some examples that demonstrate a wicked sense of humour. Although some of the advice borders on the infantile ("When you decide to travel outside the USA, you will probably need a passport"), much of it is useful and rounds out a well-composed package for someone starting out on the road to using the language overseas. --Toby Green Reviews:
"This package is great to use from the start. (I'm having to learn most folks around where I live don't speak English). It is not a traditional learning package where you start by saying hello and how to buy two beers please, although you can do this. There are, as stated, different learning styles such as video or just sound. The video quality isn't bad but the sound with it could be better (only with video otherwise very good). My only addition to it would be to add a dictionary, so that you can type a word and it will show you the translation and how to say it. The games are good practice and the voice recognition works well. My wife doesn't get on to well with the computer but she does using this. Her only gripe is that she isn't learning faster than me, yet!! Try it, not the cheapest but definately good. I'm glad we did." If you are thinking about renting a Vacation Villas in Netherlands, I would buy this book to take with you while in Netherlands. "Ok so this CD has some neat features, but as far as teaching someone chinese goes it's a faliure. Mandarin isn't built around singular word meanings, like western languages, it's built around phrases. This product shows a fundamental lack of understanding in the language it attempts to teach, by being too idiomatic. It doesn't explain anything, so a user of this product isn't going to really understand how mandarin works which is the first stage towards actually speaking it. It has a crass monkey-see monkey-do approach which may be ok for someone visting china who wants to know a few phrases, but this is no good for a serious learner of the language. It also has many tone errors on words, and many of the phrases are outdated. The one thing you can learn well from it is pronounciation, but there's no reason why this shouldn't be accompanied by a teaching structure and content that actually works." | Buffaloes Over Singapore: RAF, RAAF, RNZAF and Dutch Brewster Fighters in Action Over Malaya and the East Indies 1941-42 (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Once again Brian Cull has demonstrated his mastery as an aviation historian. While assembling the full factual details he still manages to give the human story. As with his previous works this most detailed record of a forgotten campaign is extremely readable and a must buy for any serious WWII aviation enthusiast." Before renting a Vacation House in Netherlands, I would read this book. "Once again Brian Cull has delivered the goods, as with his previous books "Hurricanes over Malta" "Spitfires over Sicily" etc. He has managed to combine historical fact with the human story. In this book we see how the RAF and Commonwealth fighter pilots were literally thrown to the wolves, yet how flying this obsolecent aircraft, gallantly fought to the bitter end. Mr. Cull is to be commended for both the quality of his research, and of his ability to tell the story in a very readable manner. Definitely a must buy for anyone interested in the far eastern airwar. Bruce Lander" Relax with this book when on Alternative Holiday in Netherlands. It would be so handy when you Rent a Alternative Holiday House in Netherlands. "This is another in a series of books written by Brian Culls, Christopher Shores, or another of the latest generation of WWII aviation historians from Grub Street who are begetting comprehensive histories of often little explored WWII aerial arenas. The aerial defense of Singapore has been largely neglected by historians. Often, when one of these writers publishes, there is little left to explore on the topic. Cull's research isn't quite up to that standard in this volume. This is due in part to the fact that his subjects lost the battle and, thus, many of their records. (Ever wonder what the battle history of Japan's 68th Sentai at New Guinea was?) Japanese records don't exactly abound either. Nonetheless, he does an excelent job and I recommend this work mightily to anyone interested in the Pacific air war." Before renting a Vacation Casa in Netherlands, I would read this book. |
