"As a long time Nepal traveller and mountaineer I cannot recommend this book. Most Lonely Planet books are pretty good but this one has some serious competition. The maps are weak and the trekking info very superficial. The Trailblazer books for example are a much better deal and offer a much richer experience while trekking in Nepal. Nepal is an amazing country, but I would skip the Lonely Planet Trekking book an look on Amazon for better alternatives. Decide on what region you want to go (Everest, Annapurna,...) and look for a specific book on that region, you will not regret it." "This book is great for all round use.
However, i would not reccomend itfor anyone
going trekking. there are many other booksspecifically
aimed at trekking which have much more detail than thisone.
But they will not tell you about any other part of thecountry

It has a lot of practical information and despite being 2 years old now, it was still fairly accurate. Other travel books attempt to be encyclopedic about Nepal,... documenting everything without prioritizing the places that people actually do visit. David's book goes into a lot of detail about places of interest, both historical and practical info. For example, the book had an excellent section on Chitwan national park. In fact, on our recent trip it saved us from getting a guide. I thoroughly recommend this book. The author even keeps a website to update the readers. Great." "The book gives an interesting introduction to what you should expect in Nepal. It also has a section on the grammer of the language. However, there is a lack of phonectic translations to aid pronounciation, so this doesn't help someone who speaks no Nepali at all. The sections are not labelled in a way that makes the book easy to use. It is difficult to find particular words, even though the book itself suggests pointing to words if you are stuck when talking to someone. The size however is ideal, and hints are given within each section about how to behave in certain situations." This book has great information about Nepal. The detail is so much better that the Lonely Planet Trekking in Nepal book which has all the treks in Nepal combined into one and therefore a lot of information you don't need. "I would agree with all previous reviews that this book is a must-have for all trekkers heading to the Everest region. I used it myself quite extensively on my trek there in May 2001, and it was most useful. The only thing I can add is that not only does it have very detailed maps and practical advice for the trekker, but it is also very compact and leightweight, which is very important if you are going to heights of more than 5,000m! The Bezruchka book is definitely the bible on Nepal but is very large and doesn't have specifics about the Everest region. This book by Jamie Mc Guinness is very up-to-date and has great trail and village maps which are very accurate. There are suggested itineraries which are very nice but the format is easy to follow on the trail in case you decide to go on your own route. "I have purchased just about all of the trekking guides, including descriptions of trekking peaks, that are available for Nepal, but always felt that they lacked a little something. This book has the little something that makes it better than most of the trekking guides. It combines essential trekking information for major treks along with great descriptions of climbing routes all written compactfully in one easy to manage book. It is thorough, well-written and very complete. It not only describes the trek or climb, but also provides a good brief history, alternatives, good graphics and a great strip maps which provide altitude, time, distance charts which I find very helpful. It's well written and has good maps and a lot of useful information in charts as well as text. The photos are excellent and both beautiful and useful. Overall, I found this to be the most useful single trekking guide and began to use it immediately."
