(Travel Cot available)      At the edge of a lovely tranquil, typically French village in the south Minervois right alongside the spectacular Canal du Midi and only 15 minutes away from the famous walled medieval city of Carcassonne. Both the Canal and the City are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You have the choice of 2 fully equipped, recently renovated cottages each sleeping 4, which can prove to be an ideal base to explore the many attractions in and around the area. If you only want to have a leisurely stroll, cycle along the canal towpath or take time to explore further a field and visit the many Cathar Churches and fabulous vineyards for a spot of wine tasting which the Languedoc is famous for. The Mediterranean beaches are less than 1 hour drive away and Spain can be reached in less than 2 hours.    

Location The village of Marseillette is midway between Carcassonne and Olanzac in the southern Minervois region. It sits between the Canal du Midi and the river Aude. This charming house is in the heart of Capendu, a village in the Minervois (17 kms east of Carcassonne, 35 kms west of Narbonne) with good road and rail links.    La Maison Verte is in the heart of the village & captures the vitality of village life in this wine-producing region.    We have sympathetically renovated the house to combine its character with modern convenience, though there is no telephone or internet access (unless for long-term lets). Please note that French people were shorter 200 years ago than their present day counterparts, so the ceilings are low in some rooms and on the stairs. Sadly, we cannot accommodate pets or smokers within the house.    The house includes: 2 double bedrooms - 1 ensuite, (Z-bed available to make one into a twin bedded room). Cot & baby/toddler package available to hire. Bed linen provided (pillow, sheet & duvet with cover). Lounge on the 2nd floor leading to the terrace, dining room, kitchen, 2 shower rooms & 1 separate toilet. Kitchen, dining room, lounge & additional ground floor shower room. Second floor terrace complete with BBQ and outdoor furniture. Many original features, including tiled floors and beamed ceilings.    An ideal base to explore historic Carcassonne & the Cathar castles of the region. Canal du Midi is close by -take a boat ride or find a quiet spot by the canalside to relax with a bottle of local wine & read Kate Mosse`s "Labyrinth". For all keen cyclists - & those who enjoy a more leisurely cycle ride, what could be simpler or closer, than the canal du Midi on your doorstep. We even have bikes for hire.    The village of Capendu is in the heart of the Minervois/Corbières wine region. 35kms from Narbonne. Within easy reach of the coast, the Pyrenees & the historic Cathar castles.   The local bar is a stones throw away, with a nearby Pizzeria/snack bar also in the village. Capendu has all necessary shops – baker, butcher, mini-market, chemist, post office, bank & hairdresser.

Allow about 25 minutes to drive to Carcassonne airport or station..   The Languedoc in France, French,Mediterranean,Med is best explored using a car, especially when driving through Carcassonne, Capendu
