"The guide book is useful, interesting and really helps you make the most of your time in Cambodia. I wouldn't have seen half of the amazing places if I hadn't taken it with me. The information in it is accurate despite what the local taxi drivers may say!! Stand your ground!! There is no need to buy any extra guide books when you're there either - all of their information is included in this one.
The only thing the book doesn't prepare you for is the random overpricing that has occurred, the variation from shop to shop is immense. Shop where the locals shop and you'll save a fortune." "I decided to be a little different when I went to Southeast Asia. Instead of taking the Lonely Planet Books which I had done to past trips to China, and England I went with the Rough Guide. What a mistake. Such a mistake that about 1/2 through the trip, somewhere in Thailand I think, I threw the book out and picked up LP guides to Vietnam and Cambodia.

The Cambodia book is great. Great information, easy to follow guides to Angkor what else could you need. LP really tells it as it is. Cambodia is a place changing everyday. Fortunately for the last year or two its been relatively calm and tourist friendly. How long this will last is anyone's guess. I hope stablity have finally come to this country with such a tragic history.

Angkor is a unbelievable place and the LP book will get you through it and teach you a lot.

"This is a dreadful book. It is uninspiring. There are few photographs. The format is exceptionally dull - pages and pages of writing.

What really made me choke though was the section about Pailin (p 140): "..long-term Pailin residents still reminisce about the Khmer Rouge years, when education and healthcare were available and food was given to the old and needy". What absolute rubbish. The sort of education that the Khmer Rouge gave is very well known about - communist indoctrination. As for food, well, perhaps it was a different Cambodia where so many people died of starvation, caused entirely by the Khmer Rouge. Then again, perhaps the author simply doesn't know what she is talking about.

"I used this book while traveling through Cambodia this past summer. It was very helpful and has all the information one might need. I also like the format more than LP. I thought it was a bit easier to read.

One down side to the book were the prices it listed. Almost everything was cheaper than quoted. (This of course made me a happy traveler) I guess this isnt the books fault though.

The sections on Siem Reap & the temples at Ankor were good enough. However, it is really worth it to pick up one of the special temple guide books available at the market in town. "Compared to the excellent Lonely Planet guide and even the rough guide, the Footprint book on Cambodia leaves much to be desired... it is full of errors of history and fact, and even gives wrong coordinates on its maps, especially its important map of Phnom Penh. If you buy one guidebook to Cambodia, let it be Lonely Planet, not this very disappointing Footprint guide, no matter how pretty the pictures are.

"I've been very happy with other Footprint Handbooks, particularly the Pakistan Handbook, but this one falls short of the mark. Maybe it is because this is only the 2nd edition and there has been too little feedback from users. The background info is very well done (that part is worth 4.5 stars) regarding history and religion, but the description of sights is only mediocre. I thought Lonely Planet described things better, and the Moon Handbook was the best of the three. I could have done without bringing this guidebook." "As one of the World's leading experts on Cambodia, David Chandler gives an invaluable insight in Cambodian History.

Starting with the fascinating mystery surrounding the Leper King, Chandler uses a mirriade of sources and references. The reader can only but by amased at the mastery of the author. In fact, reading Chandler's work enables one to discover other scholars, recent and older.

The final essay, "The Tragedy of Cambodian History Revisited", although a bit old (1994), is a stunning insight in this South-Eastern nation's life.

I was fascinated from the first line, to the last one. The only flip side might be the lay-out of the work, in which some pages are more than half filled by foot-notes. It is clearly an collection of academic essays.
