| The Lost Continent: Travels in Small Town America (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This book lacks the vitality of the other works - one gets the impression that Bryson is merely 'churning out' material for the sake of it with this effort - humour is sparse, apart from perhaps the first chapter; events are uninteresting; overall the book lacks the zest of Bryson's previous publications." This book has supper information on US, well worth reading if you buying a Alternative Holiday Cottage in US. "I don't think this one should have got past the editor. I like BB's style of writing normally, but in this book he comes across as the most awful snob. He looks down on people because of the way they speak, he sneers at people who don't know who Thomas Hardy is, he seems to resent people because they are fat, poor, uneducated. Its all too easy. I expected more thought and less malice from Bryson. If you're looking for a good read try "Down Under" or "A Walk in the Woods" instead." This book has best information about US. | Boston (USA PopOut Maps S.) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I've used the Los Angeles Pop-out map before, in late 2001, and found that to be incredibly useful. All the touristy things/places were clearly marked and so easy to find. The Boston pop-out map is just as good. The main advantage being that is so much less-bulky than other tourist maps, but still carries all the important information. At the end of the day, it is much easier to stow this in a pocket than lug a heavy guide book round all day." Before buying a Alternative Vacation Property in US, I would read this book. "The Popout maps in general are a verry easy to use travel tool.
I like the size (greetingcard size) and the information it carry's.
The Boston map shows you all the things you want to visit on 4 little maps each for a different area or purpose. and on the back they have a subwaymap.
This map is a usefull musthave product for if you are new in Boston. It has everything you need.

"We visited Boston in July 2004, the pop up map was ideal, small enough to fit in the pocket, no tricky folding needed, very durable, something like this is ideal, plenty of useful info and tourist info, well recommended as is Boston itself." Before buying a Vacation House in US, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in US. "These popout maps are wonderful for the first time visitor or someone who travels often to the city. The are small enough to fit in most pockets or purses & refolding is not a problem so there is no awkwardness. They are also attractive, durable & easy to read.
The Boston map includes a 1 hour walk around Harvard Square, an insert of downtown & Beacon Hill, a large map of Greater Boston, a detailed map of Downtown Boston from Fenway Park to the North End, a T map (The T or the MBTA - Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority is what we call the Mass transit system in Boston), a street index & info on places of interest such as museums, universities, beaches, parks & lakes. Even the routes of the Freedom Trail & the Black Heritage Trail are marked! Buy this guide - you will not regret it." | Light This Candle: The Life and Times of Alan Shepard, America's First Spaceman (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I had fun reading this, but the author seemed to be guessing about some areas of Alan Shepard's life. Because Shepard himself never wrote an autobiography and gave few interviews, a lot of his life was loosely pieced together. It made me wonder if now, from beyond the grave, Shepard wishes he had just written a book himself so he could set the story straight! The lives of the 1st waves of astronauts is always interesting to read about, even though it was before my time. They were revered as celebrities and heroes, getting the covers of Life magazine, and ticker tape parades. This book does uncover some of the partying and hard living in Cocoa Beach that the newsmen of the day kept secret to protect the hero status of the astronauts." Before buying a Holiday Cottage in , I would read this book. "This, according to the author, is the first biography devoted entirely to America's first man in space, Alan B. Shepard. That in itself is really surprising considering how prominent Shepard was in the last 40 years of the 20th century. Either way, this is a good book about the man, although it was obviously written with a non-technically oriented reader in mind, which is not inherently bad and makes the book very readable. This book really does introduce you to Shepard the man, without the NASA and Life magazine whitewashing. Shepard is seen with all his faults, which at various times included womanizing, drinking, arrogance, etc. Regardless, Shepard did lead a very interesting life, and the book brings that to the reader. If you want to learn more about our first man in space, this book is highly recommended to you." This book has great information about . So take it with you when you Buy a Vacation Cottage in . |

| New York City (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"As a general rule, I tend to prefer Lonely Planet guides as they have colour photos and are usually slightly more compact. However, the Rough guide is better in a couple of areas, mainly the nightlife and where to eat sections. This book also has some useful hints, such as the best time to visit museums etc and mentions some more out of the way places/ buildings that are worth a visit. A bit bulky but great to keep in your hotel room to plan what you want to see the following day or where to eat that night (Carmine's, Times Square off 7th Ave, is well worth a visit if there are more than 4 of you)." Before buying a Vacation Cottage in US, I would read this book. "Having read the 'Rough Guide' full version, I was half expecting a lot of the information in the mini guide to be left out, but oh contrare, it was still packed with loads of information, and in a more realistic package for those of us who don't have a year to see everything ! It's a great size for reference, fitting snuggly in your pocket, so your head is not constantly in your book missing the sights and sounds going on around you ! I was very impressed, and the maps are very clear and precise. Once again, as always, the rough guide team have done a fantastic job - Well done." A wealth of information about US, a great book if you are thinking about buying a Holiday Holiday property in US. "Let me just say this, if you are interested in Architecture and Art, this book is wonderful!!! It goes into great detail about all of the neighborhoods historical buildings. I am a traveler who goes to see the buildings and this book has given me a great insight into where I can go see what, and at the best angle." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday Apartment in US, I would read this book while in US. |

| Beyond Disney: the Unofficial Guide to Universal, Seaworld & the Best of Central Florida (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"It's sad but so many British visitors holiday in Orlando yet never step outside the cosy Disney world. I say 'sad' because there is so much more to explore. There is no doubt that the Disney environment will satisfy even the most cynical and world weary of tourist, a world where all is clean, friendly and expertly presented. But outside Maingate is so much more, no less entertaining and, in many cases, more inspiring. This book provides a circumspective tour of many of these and doesn't labour on the better known at the expense of the lesser. The seasoned Florida visitor who might be becoming a little jaded with the usual fare will find lots of interesting opportunities whether their demands are for the active or more sedentary lifestyle. Though meant as a reference book, it's one of those guides you can repeatedly read from cover to cover. And just ideal for that 8 hour flight!" A wealth of information about US, a great book if you are thinking about buying a Alternative Vacation Alternative Vacation property in US. "While we only timetabled in to visit Seaworld and Discovery Cove, this book was instrumental in making this choice. Having two children we didn't want to waste time and money on parks where they would be disappointed at height restrictions or nightmare ridden from rides that terrified them. This book helped us make a firm decision to miss out a few parks until they are older. Thus saving us money and tears and stress. Although I am wondering if I can sneak off by myself to the US to go to the other parks..." Before buying a Alternative Vacation Villa in US, I would read this book. "A wonderful book to plan your holiday with. This is the second time I have bought this book, it's packed with really useful tips that will save you time and money. Don't consider visiting the parks without it!" Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Holiday in US. It would be so usefull when you Buy a Alternative Holiday Cottage in US. "This is a companion book to the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World," for those who decide to venture beyond Disney's realm in central Florida. The authors do a fine job rating attractions (rides, films, displays, etc.). They use star-ratings coupled with their assessments and readers' comments, along with a healthy dose of humor--all of which will be familiar to readers of the "Walt Disney World" book. It's all-too familiar in the case of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. In fact, it's simply a verbatim extract of the "Walt Disney World" text. Worse yet, it omits one of the best features of the Disney book: the touring plans. If you're planning a trip to Universal Studios, and/or Islands of Adventure, stick with Sehlinger's Disney book: it contains more and better coverage. Sea World receives better coverage here. And this is the only "Unofficial Guide" coverage of the other parks." This book has supper information about US. So take it with you when you Buy a Alternative Holiday Apartment in US. |

| Lonely Planet California (Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Although the book boasts 'www upgrades' on the cover, there is currently no update available. The hotel information appears to be VERY out of date, so the price guides are a waste of time. The book does not really reference the www, but at least it's not as uptight as the rough guides" Before buying a Alternative Vacation Apartment in US, I would read this book. "Lonely Planet shows the little Calirfornia towns in detail. Towns like Arcata, Chico, Merced to name a few. Others like Fodors dont do this. Great and in depth." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday Cottage in US, I would read this book. "I used the previous version of this guide for a six week trip through California, Vegas, Nevada, Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. I never have found a guidebook so useful. Anza-borrego National Park, Zion Nat. Park (Angels Landing), Valley of Fire State Park, Ventena wilderness. are all places that I'd never heard of before but visited because of this guidebook - All fantastic places. Enough was covered on the Grand Canyon for me to arrange a camp site in the Canyon itself - no mean feat because of the demand. Highly recommend this to anyone on a California, Nevada + Canyons trip" This book has wonderfull information on US, well worth reading if you buying a Holiday Cottage in US. "All you need to know for planning a trip on limited time and budget: good list of budget to mid-priced accomodation for most towns and cities, concise guides for all places of interest, good introduction and background of the region, suggested itinery is good for reference, but lack of photos, and poor quality maps: insufficient maps for motorists." If you are thinking about buying a Vocation or Holiday Houses in US, I would buy this book to take with you while in US. "A few wrong turns here and there but generally essential Lonely Planet quality throughout. A good overview. Well written." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Vacation in US. | The Truth and Fiction in The Da Vinci Code: A Historian Reveals What We Really Know About Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Constantine (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"If you're curious about the "facts" presented in Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code," and you don't want a serving of theology on the side, this is the book for you. Ehrman is a historian who's written other mainstream books on early Christianity. In this book, he gives an overview of the historian's method, then dives into the record regarding early Christianity, the influence of Constantine, and the gradual emergence of the documents now know as the New Testament.
All this is delivered in a brisk, readable style, without any discussion of the thornier theological issues raised by Brown's book. Ehrman liked the book as a piece of fiction and says so. But after reading Ehrman's book you'll come to the sad conclusion that Dan Brown didn't do any "research" for "The Da Vinci Code"; he read one or two pulpy paperbacks."
