| The Lycian Way: Turkey's First Long Distance Walk (Walking Guides to Turkey S.) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"very useful explanation to prepare or to perform this exciting walk, which is nearly unknown to the great public. hh" Before buying a Alternative Holiday Casa in Turkey, I would read this book while in Turkey. "This is the definitive and only book availiable on walking the Lycian Way! The way it is set out allows anyone from absolute beginners to enthusiasts to take a walk through the beautiful scenery it describes. Kate Clow discovered the Lycian Way by finding all the old paths and joining them up. She was given an Award normally only given to Turkish citizens for this. She has lived in Turkey since 1989, I think, so knows a thing or two about the locality. She also has her own walking company which aranges walks along the Lycian Way and other routes. What a great aunt to have... :)" This book has a wealth of information about Turkey. So take it with you when you Buy a Vocation or Holiday Apartment in Turkey. |

| Eyewitness Travel Guide: Turkey (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"As an introduction to Turkey, I feel that this is the best all-round guide available. Not too heavy, visually inspiring and with honest and sensible text. Independant travellers may find Lonely Planet more useful as it is more comprehensive. This guide contains accurate and useful info on all the essential sites to be seen in Turkey." | A Fez of the Heart: Travels Through Turkey in Search of a Hat (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Being a native of Turkey, I found Seal's book not only carrying strong Orientalist motives, but also uninformed or misinformed in many occasions. The book being built on the 'Fez' theme sounds interesting first, but it is not meant to be simply a travel book and attempts to analyze complicated cultural and historical issues of the Turkish society. Unfortunately, the writer lacks the academic (or seems to lack any strong background for that matter) to be able to draw educated conclusions. I often felt that the writer had a views in mind and was trying confirm them with his observations in that direction. His characters were extremely uncommon and seemed deliberately selected, if not fabricated." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vocation or Holiday House to Buy in . "I find that some of the reviews posted by fellow readers are too harsh. JS did not set out to write the great historical or sociological masterpiece on Turkey. Rather, he uses the fez as an instrument through which he analyzes the complexity of Turkish society, in a light-hearted yet educative manner. My only disappointment with the book is JS' subtle suggestion that deep down inside, Turkey is more "eastern" than "western". In reality, I find Turkey to be unique among nations in this part of the world. While eastern attitudes may still be the norm in places like Konya, Kayseri and Erzurum, and western attitudes prevail in cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya, the bottom line is that Turks are Turks which is what makes them, the country and certainly, JS' book so interesting." This book has best information on , well worth reading if you buying a Vacation Apartment in . "I found this book to be boring. I kept hoping for it to get more interesting, have more color, more humor, more detail, but it just didn't happen for me. I have travelled to India and parts of Africa, but not Turkey. Maybe if I'd been to Turkey, I would have appreciated the book more. I read almost three quarters of it, and then just put it down. Maybe I was too hopeful that it eventually would be more alluring." Before buying a Vacation Cottage in , I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in . |

| Turkey (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Kusadasi has amazing beaches , nightlife and excellent seafood restuarants. I would highly reccommend to my fellow travellers that it most definately should not be overlooked as a place to stay to either prepare your journey around Turkey, take in the many day drips it has to offer, such as Ephusus and Selcuk, Pammukale,The National Park or just to chill out and relax. Followed the good write up on "The Golden Bed Pension" in Kusadasi and may I add ,that not only is it suitable for all ages, couples, families and the solo female, it is a popular retreat for the gay travellers. It has terrific views of the sea from the rooms and the terrace bar, with nighly B.B.Q. and male and female belly-dancers. Kusadasi is more than just a Port for the weiry travellers from Samos and The Greek Islands embarking on the delights that Turkey offers." www.HomeIsAway.com great Vocation or Holiday Villa to Buy in Turkey. "I wish those who complain that the Turkey Survival Guide has wrong information would give some examples, especially trenchant ones. As for myself, I find Tom's book to be on the same excellent par of the dozen or more Lonely Planet guides I've used for my travels to almost 40 countries." Before buying a Alternative Vacation Apartment in Turkey, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Turkey. "Yes, the book is very detailed and very useful. But the pictures are misleading. Lonely Planet has become orientalist. Turkey is not just beaches and peasants with headscarfs. Where are the normal people? Come on Pat Yale and Tom Broshanan, you both have lived in Turkey! Why there are no pictures of the young girls in miniskirts and their boyfriends who together roam the streets of Istanbul, Trabzon, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Giresun, Bursa while talking to their cellulars and going to pubs at night????? Maybe they look too "western" and normal to make it to the pages of LP! --- Even though these people are a majority in Turkey where 60% population is under 30years!!!!!!!! This time LP was a great dissappointment. It is not voicing the reality of Turkey, but the way foreigners (=rest of Europe) *wants* to see it. Shame on you Pat and Tom!" Before buying a Vacation House in Turkey, I would read this book. "The book is very good but there are some misleading pieces of information. On the facts for the visitor, Pat Yale advices a female traveler to ask for aile (/family) sections in restaurants. Well, there are not many of these restaurants and in fact, it sounds strange that a tourist would ask for such a place, like she would not see straight away how the restaurant is like. The only places that are not "meant" for women are male dominated cafes, called "kirathanesi" where men play cards, smoke and drink. And you can see from the door right away that women are not extremely welcome to those places. Same applies to Greece and Cyprus." This book has best information on Turkey, well worth reading if you buying a Vacation Property in Turkey. |

| The Rough Guide to Turkey, 5th edition (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This is the best single guidebook we've found for Turkey. We escort small groups to Turkey...and the Rough Guide is consistently the best single reference for general and historical information. Combined with the Blue Guide to Turkey, it's easy to plan your trip. As usual with the Rough Guides, it has a lot of information for many types of travelers without sacrificing cultural and historical details. Well organized, with good maps (much better than the Lonely Planet series). We've made 5 trips to Turkey now, and find something new from this book each time."
