I worked my way across Spain having started with just a few basic phrases and picking everything else up from this pocket sized guide. It not only has English:Spanish Spanish:English dictionaries with pronunciation tips, but also a quick sentence formation guide and menu translator. The handy little hints and tips interspersed with the dictionary saved us from all sorts of faux pas and helped us make sense of signs, opening times and customs. My copy is now very dog eared and grubby - always a good recommendation." Before buying a Alternative Vacation Cottage in Spain, I would read this book. "This delightful 1cm thick pocket paperback is an English-Spanish and Spanish-English dictionary. Not only is this ideal because of its size and weight, but also for the pronunciation. Words are written in Spanish and also in brackets in an imitated pronunciation which is very easy for English speakers to use.
The phrases that are provided in the 'Basics' section are there to illustrate grammar points and are therefore mostly irrelevant for a phrase book buyer, but great for the beginner student in Spanish.

"I used this guide during a recent trip to Andalucia and chose it for the same reason as Sam (see other review). I found it an extremely useful guide for planning an itinerary, and I did not happen upon any major inaccuracies. I guess if you're the kind of person who gets worked up about having to 'waste' an afternoon in Granada (sounds like heaven), or taking a wrong turning on a walk, then you're probably going to be quite hard to please. I took numerous wrong turns and wasted time in some fabulous places, I recommend you buy this book and do the same." A wealth of information about Spain, a great book if you are thinking about buying a Vocation or Holiday Vocation or Holiday property in Spain. "Fantastic resource for the Andalucian paradise! We travelled to Spain with other guides, purchased this one on Gibralter and weren't without it the rest of the visit! We also travelled with a 6 month old, great recommendations for sites and out of the way not- touristy spots. Roman ruins listed in here are incredible and would have been missed if using any other guide." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday House in Spain, I would read this book while in Spain. "I bought this book shortly before I moved to the region in May 2001.
