"What can I say? This is the greatest book that I've ever seen on traveling to Jamaica.

Within the first 100 pages of this book is accurate, important information about everything you could imagine about Jamaica. I loved that this information came first, before all of the "guide" things. I beleive that within these important pages of this book, the reader can determine if indeed Jamaica is a place they might want to go to, or stay away from.

If you read this book and still have questions about Jamaica, you need to read the book again because its ALL in here.

"Chevannaes provides a very in-depth look at the societal situations that gave rise to Rastafari. While discussing those situations, however, it seems to me that his mind did not come to the same conclusion as the Rastafarians. To write on Rastafari without understanding the mindstate leaves the reader with much to be desired.

To his credit though, Chavannaes never really attempts such an interpretation. He is a social antropologist, and writes this book in an occupationally fitting academic manner.

To better understand Rastafari as a mentality...listen to Bob Marley. To better understand Rastafari as you would an American history course....read this book. Both forms of learning are legitimate, and i think my overall disappointment in this book came from me expecting the former while receiving the latter. "i bought witch child a while ago, and even though it had some really good reviews and everyone seemed to like it, i couldnt get into it. so i was kind of wondering why i had decided to buy pirates which was by the same author! but i decided to have a go with it, and although the beginning was a little slow to beginwith overall this book was GREAT!!! half an action packed adventure, half a raw love story this book was a real stunner! im starting to really enjoy reading about historical events, and this book was written true to life then just as celia reeves always does! it changed my oppinion on pirates and actaully made me feel slightly scornful towards the navy boats and others who were out to get the pirates! this book is very thoughtfuly and powerfuly written, its a must have to anybody's shelf no matter what types of books you like!"
