"I bought this book for a trip to Greenland, and there is no information about Greenland in it at all. Evidently all the Greenland & Faroes information has been eliminated from this edition. I am off to look for a 2nd hand copy of the previous edition." This book has fantastic information on , well worth reading if you buying a Vocation or Holiday Property in .

Reykjavik (Footprint Pocket Guides) (Book)

Customer Rating:
Reviews:

"I looked at this and the Rough Guide to Iceland, and if you're making a visit to Reykjavík this is the only guide you need. The style is chatty and down to earth, with masses of useful information for the visitor--especially good sections on eating in the city, and on galleries, music venues, and museums. Some of the small details (like descriptions of menus) could be updated, as could info on public internet access (v.cheap at the City Library), info on phoning abroad, and contact info for Hotel Loftleiðer. Dixon's grasp of Reykjavik life, though, is excellent--insightful, hip, yet generous and inviting. A great guide." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Vacation in Iceland. It would be so usefull when you Buy a Vacation Cottage in Iceland.

"I liked this book, because it was written in a funny, interesting and informative way.In my opinion it did cater just about all the needs you can think of while staying there...I don't think we
(me and my girlfriend)ever left our hotel without it!The maps are accurate enough to get your bearings in Reykjavik. An additional bonus is the handy size;no use in dragging any coffee table sized books around town......" Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Vacation in Iceland. It would be so usefull when you Buy a Alternative Vacation Property in Iceland.

"Finally travellers to Reykjavik get to buy a book that doesn't cover the whole of Iceland. As a result, it's much more compact (pocket-sized) and relevant to people who are going to stay in the capital most of the time.

This will apply to most first-time visitors to Iceland. The book does mention some of the more obvious trips you might make from the capital, but concentrates on the city itself.

It's a bit like a mini Rough Guide. Not stuffy, seems to know about the 'in' places to eat and be seen, the cool places to go, and yet has all the basic, sensible stuff you'll want to know about a city before you go there.

I'd say it's just about on the money." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday Apartment in Iceland, I would read this book.

Lonely Planet Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)

"This Lonely Planet title is good start for your trip to Iceland and/or Greenland. As other Lonely Planet guidebooks, this also includes short descriptions of e.g. history, politics and traditions. Most importantly, it also gives information about hostels and hotels along with their contact information and prices. With staying just one night in an inexpensive, but nice place, you can save more than the original price of the book. This book saved me money, helped me to plan and fulfil the trip. Great value!" Relax with this book when on Alternative Vacation in Iceland. It would be so handy when you Buy a Alternative Vacation Property in Iceland.

"I was looking for a guide devoted to the Faroe Islands and found none in either London or Paris and so I bought the Lonely Planet guide somewhat reluctantly - after all it is mostly on Iceland. However, it was well worth travelling with the weighty tome to these remote islands. It is full of accurate and helpful information, excellent accounts of Faroese history and culture and just the right tips to take the visitor off the beaten track (if such an expression can be applied to a place that is hardly overrun by tourists!). It gives a very balanced view of the controversial Faroese practise of whale killing that does not excuse the practice on cultural grounds or condemn it on ecological ones. The style is alert and literate. The guide has whetted my appetite for a trip to Iceland." If you are thinking about buying a Holiday Cottages in Iceland, I would buy this book to take with you while in Iceland.

"We tend to travel a lot and we often use the lonely planet books. They are always very useful. However this particular one was very disappointing, a lot of the places of interest are not even listed in the index so you have to go chapter by chapter to read about something. Most of the time, once you have found what you look for, it does not give you much practical information about it (apart from hotels and places to it, which appear to be the highlight)." Before buying a Holiday Villa in Iceland, I would read this book while in Iceland.

"Lonely Planet Guide to Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands is not only an excellent guide book in the fine tradition of Lonely Planet books, it is also a fascinating read about the three countries visited. All the usual essential information is there for travellers to any of these countries - how to get there, where to stay, what to see and do. There is also a fascinating chapter on the history and culture of the three countries where you are likely to learn much that you didn't know about these three remote places. My only slight criticism is the lack of photographs of Greenland and the Faroe Islands but all in all it is an ideal companion for anyone wishing to get the most from their trip to the far north." This book has wonderfull information about Iceland. So take it with you when you Buy a Vacation Casa in Iceland.

"Iceland is famous for its millions of seabirds, especially puffins, that nest on the cliffs and shores. Unfortunately they all depart by September 1 (the puffins often in mid-August), and nowhere did I find that information, although I admit I didn't read the Lonely Planet guide from cover to cover. A group of us who visited in mid-September were very disappointed. In fairness, the other Iceland guides don't seem to warn of this either, nor do the travel brochures." Relax with this book when on Holiday in Iceland. It would be so handy when you Buy a Holiday Villa in Iceland.

"This humorous "guide" gives insight to the character and behavior of the Icelanders. Everything from knitting to politics is covered. Some of the information given in this book is now outdated, such as the restrictions on the importation of dairy products. These tend to be minor details and do not take away from the quality of the book. No pictures." Before buying a Alternative Vacation House in Iceland, I would read this book.

"This book is fantastic. I'm Icelandic myself and everything this book states is completely correct and a greatly humorous view of the nation. Apart from a few misspelling Icelandic names and concepts this book is wonderful" www.HomeIsAway.com great Holiday House to Buy in Iceland.

"I came across this nifty little book by chance. I've been fascinated by all things Icelandic for a while and this is a fantastic read for anyone who has any interest in the place and people. It would also make an excellent companion to anyone planning travel there too. It's witty, highly informative and fun to read. It provides a useful background to Icelandic life and culture, their national characteristics and customs. You get to learn some really incredible facts as well as their quirky habits. All in all a great book crammed with information and essential reading for anyone planning a trip there or remotely interested in the place." Before buying a Holiday Casa in Iceland, I would buy this book to guide you round the local areas in Iceland.

"What a delightful surprise I had in store when I purchase this book for a friend that will be traveling to Iceland for the first time. I couldn't put it down once I opened it. Filled with humor and hopefully some truth it is delightful from start to finish. Now I wish I were the one traveling to Iceland!" Why not buy this book, and read while on your Alternative Holiday in Iceland. It would be so usefull when you Buy a Alternative Holiday Villa in Iceland.

Viking Age Iceland (Book)

Customer Rating:
Reviews:

"The strength of this book is that it uses the sagas as a tool to learn more about viking age Iceland rather than ignoring it as folk lore as other historians have in the past. This approach also makes the book a lot more readable and enjoyable for those who do not like a dry history book with facts and dates and people names. In addition, I also enjoyed the details about how they built their houses and the lay-out of their houses.

However, the author seems to fall short in the area of icelandic marraige and relationships between the men and women, other than in terms of feud or law. The book seems to focus a great deal on law and not so much on the personal family life of these individual icelanders.

To make up for it, the book does site passages from the sagas about different people in a political context.

But if you buy this book, you really don't have to bother buying medieval iceland. These two books pretty much cover the same ground." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday House in Iceland, I would read this book while in Iceland.

"I could have done with this book when I began to study Old Icelandic as part of a Master's degree in the history of the English language. This is a splendid companion for anyone who wants to know the minutiae of every day life in the Icelandic commonwealth or free state from 10-13 century. It tells you many things about the society, including the construction of latrines and longhouses and there is possibly more than any sane person would want to know about turf construction. A particularly fine feature of the book is the large number of maps illustrating all kinds of things, including the locations of the 48 so-called 'family sagas'. The 34 page bibliography is excellent and includes many items in Icelandic. IMHO this book is essential reading for those beginning Old Icelandic studies and the general reader whose imagination has been fired by reading the sagas in translation." Why not buy this book, and read while on your Vocation or Holiday in Iceland. It would be so usefull when you Buy a Vocation or Holiday Villa in Iceland.
