"The book is typical Lonely Planet, which translates to a good guide book. The list of hotels and restaurants is long and descriptive. I was surprised that it did not include a day trip to Malmo as an option. The sightseeing section is good. The walking tours section is efficient. However, this book has easily the worst cover photo I have seen on a travel book. It depicts some geek - probably one of the writers' friends - standing behind a Royal Palace Guardsman. "This book was published in June 2001, not necessarily what you would call the most up to date/definitive guide. Nonetheless, the experts at lonely planet have once again proved that they are the best in the business. The guide contains everything you need to plan and enjoy your trip. Includes a very useful section on walking tours. Although there are only 2 listed, it puts the entire city in a nutshell, with all the major attractions, a map and what to see when you get there.

The Where To Stay section was a bit of a let down though, I would recommend checking out the internet as there are plenty variety more than what was listed in the guide. "This book was extremely informative, all information is clear and concise and was easy to navigate through.

We wanted an easy to use, novice guide on what to do/where to go/what to see/where & what to eat etc. for a short break in the city and this book told us everything we wanted to know & more.

This helped us to plan a full itinerary for our trip prior to us arriving - and therefore, helped us to not waste a minute of our precious holiday time!

Have nothing really bad to say about the publication - it is well written, interesting & informative; without being too detailed/long-winded.

"Lets face it this book is for backpackers trying to sqeeze by in an expensive place like Scandinavia. If you want to read about the region than your going to need another book. Outside the major citites this book probably lacks coverage but in the cities it is a completely different story. I did some major hosteling in Scandinavia due to budget constraints. Many of these hostels were the nicest ones I have ever seen. If you want to hostel around Scandinavia this book is the most useful lonely planet I have yet to purchase out a dozen or so." Do that many people hit Greenland and the main Scandinavian countries in the same trip to justify putting it in the same book? The result is that the book is short on detail, even the basic "Things to Do" that you can find in a competing Scandinvian guide. "I admit to being a Dane, and reading this book my reactions alternated between amused pride and sincere embarrassment as I saw one layer after another of our national character accurately dissected, -but most of all I laughed!

This book has a wonderful energetic sense of irony and humour, combined with a deep insight into the Danish culture and mentality. The only objection I have to some of the conclusions and observations is that they are rather obviously made in Copenhagen and apply the best to Danes from the capital. Denmark is a small country, but there is still some regional variance in our culture. For instance, people in Jutland have a better sense of humour than those in Copenhagen. I think a Copenhagen Dane might have laughed less...

"This book is completely out of date. I visited Copenhagen over this new years and had this book as my guide. Not only did the book fail to mention that the prices in Copenhagen (and the rest of Denmark) are horrendous (£1.20 for a Snickers bar, £1.70 for a small bottle of coke), but it was misleading, the beautiful buildings it mentioned were covered in dirt, the numerous cafes which the Danes apparently loved to frequent open late and shut early, and the party atmosphere was more akin to a school disco. Im sure there are nice things to do in Copenhagen, just dont expect to find them in this book." Relax with this book when on Alternative Holiday in Denmark. "I think the book is great, I have lived in Finland for over a year now with my Finnish Hubbie, and we both have discovered new things from the book. My father also enjoyed it and found the history part very interesting, as his knowledge of Finland was limited. "I visited this country with my Finnish boyfriend in 2002. THe book was a great help. It helped me decide which tourist spots, shopping areas, historical sites and places of interest to check out. The only part that I didn't like was that it didn't touch too much on the smaller cities of Finland, but in general, it's a good buy. Definitely worth it, but make sure you get "Culture Shock, Guide to Finland" if you do travel to Suomi. Having a cultural view of this beautiful country is important." "I've just been to Helsinki for a few days, and although I didn't get the chance to test this book's usefulness in other parts of the country, it certainly proved worth having just for Helsinki. It tells you all the basic stuff, and some of the interesting stuff. I was able to get from the airport by bus and walk to my hotel from the bus station simply by glancing at the book on the flight to Helsinki. "I bought this book a year ago now and found it pretty poor! I've been to finland 10 or more times and feel I know the country and its people a lot more than the author of this book!
His descriptions of Finnish attitudes and temproment are so stereotyped and dated. Fascinating Museums, Buildings and Shops do not seem to feature! I can not comprehend how some one could produce this kind of book, about such a fascinating and unique place! Finland is a dynamic vibrant and varied place and has a lot more to offer than this guide would suggest! Its a real dissapointment, it does however carry some useful logistical info, trains, hotels/ hostels ect. But most of this info can be found on the net or from the many Tourist Infomation Offices in Finland. I do hope he's done some home work for this edition!"
