| The "Time Out" Havana and Best of Cuba Guide ("Time Out" Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Superb! Bright, Colourful, Fresh, this isn't your average Guide book. Not only is it a delight to read, the content going beyond the ordinary, it is a feast for the eyes - the photography is something else. It is packed full of those essential details which will make your trip to Cuba more than just a travelling experience. It is obvious that the local writers have their fingers on the pulse and the sharp editing keeps the whole together in a succinctly Time Out way making the book a page turner as well as a reference text. Visiting Cuba without this Guide could mean the difference between having a good holiday and having the experience of a life-time." Before buying a Holiday Apartment in Cuba, I would read this book. "On the whole I dislike travel guides and find them hard to read, but this was great. Lots of useful information written in a interesting and readable way. Good honest advice." This book has wonderfull information on Cuba, well worth reading if you buying a Alternative Holiday Cottage in Cuba. |

| Enduring Cuba (Journeys S.) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"I found this book really interesting. Having been to Cuba I felt this book conveyed a side of life that I was unable to see or join in with as a tourist, but that I got glimpses of when I was there. I didn't find it boring - in fact, the complete opposite, as the author appeared to be reporting exactly what she saw and heard. It was easy to read yet detailed, and much better than alot of other travel books, as it was not hyped up. I am actually amazed at the level of acceptance she was able to achieve from everyday Cubans. It made me want to read her other book." Relax with this book when on Alternative Holiday in Cuba. It would be so handy when you Buy a Alternative Holiday House in Cuba. "This is one of the very few really good books on Cuba available right now, mostly because it's much much, more than just a travel book. Unlike many so-called experiences of the island, Bran's book doesn't sentimentalise but gives the real experience of someone visiting Cuba with a clear, unbiased eye. There's history here and personal experience and a whole lot of great description of people and places. Bran's range of knowledge is considerable and I particularly liked her Graham Greene-style meetings with the foreign correspondent who got thrown out of the country because he upset Castro by constantly referring to his age! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to know more about Cuba and what's it's really like in the dying days of a communist state." Before buying a Alternative Vacation Property in Cuba, I would read this book while in Cuba. "Ms. Bran's book so closely mirrors my own impressions and experiences in visiting Cuba with a natural history tour group in early 2001 that it is spellbinding. Her objectivity and the breadth of her experiences provide a reader with a more than reasonable facsimile for an actual visit to the island. The many small details that she notes are particularly noteworthy for a past traveler to Cuba: the lack of toilet seats, the rationing of soap and toilet paper, the constant search for food by the populace, the CDR painted on the cement residential buildings, the Chocolate Factory outside Baracoa, the intimate social activities along the Malecon, the political slogans, the presence of Che Guevara today, the furtive conversations, the marvellous music, the wonderful hopeful spirit of the population. If you read just one book about the current social experience in Cuba today, run to enjoy Enduring Cuba. I couldn't put it down!" Relax with this book when on Alternative Vacation in Cuba. It would be so handy when you Buy a Alternative Vacation House in Cuba. "I sympathise with the reviewer who wrote 'enduring this book'! Yes it was a bit dry and serious. But it also had some really interesting observations, and I think it's worth reading for anyone visiting Cuba who might want to know a bit more than the tourist experience. If you're trawling through travel books on Cuba, I'd say it has more depth than Blue Cuban Nights, but not as gritty as Dirty Havana Trilogy." www.HomeIsAway.com great Alternative Holiday Apartment to Buy in Cuba. "I visited Cuba before I read this. I was backpacking with a friend from Peru so I feel I have a certain knowledge of the country. I did not like this book. First of all I found it quite boring and it was a struggle at times to keep going. It improved towards the end and does provide some food for thought but overall the whole book is told in such a dull, dreary, depressing manner. Also I found the author a bit arrogant and aloof at times. Cuba is a unique country in the world and has many very good things going for it (especially comparing it to other Latin American countries) and very bad things e.g. the day-today struggle of the people but it is a fascinating place nonetheless. There is just no excuse for the book to be boring. It was as if her writing style had to mirror her perceived struggle of the people. Not a travel book, not a good analysis of the political situation - didn't achieve at any level. Some food for thought and that's it. I could do better myself." This book has wonderfull information on Cuba, well worth reading if you buying a Alternative Holiday House in Cuba. "I agree with ginnymurphy that this is one of the very best books about Cuba and how the state is now that I've ever read. There's no propaganda (at least, that I could discern) here. Zoe Bran uses her investigative skills (in figuring out & explaining the lack of toilet seats, for example) and also her intense yet sensitive journalistic skills in interviewing (in Spanish) so many average Cubans, as well as several diplomats and Cuban officials, to get an all-around perspective of the situation there. She's very good at what she does, and she also sounds like the kind of person I'd like to be with on a visit to Cuba, a place that fascinates us norteamericanos, whether we admit it or not." | Lonely Planet Cuba (Lonely Planet Country & Regional Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"If you are heading to Cuba for the first time then this book is indespensible. The latest edition (July 2000) has excellent up-to-date information to help you through the Cuban experience. There is a lot to understand about Cuba's rich mix of cultural diversity and turbulent history. This book acts as the perfect guide from the places to see through to the do's and don'ts." Before buying a Vocation or Holiday Villa in Cuba, I would read this book while in Cuba. "This edition of 'Cuba' was helpful but not fantastically so. On the good side, there is helpful information about travelling in Cuba (as one would hope there to be). However, on the negative side I felt that the writer made too many value judgements of her own that readers might not agree with (I certainly disagreed with a few). It is also not that easy to follow, partly because the writing is quite small. I have always gone for Lonely Planet guides, after this one I nearly changed my mind. Not bad, but Gorry's writing style annoyed me." Before buying a Vacation Cottage in Cuba, I would read this book while in Cuba. "This LP guide is the best for information, history, prices and a good unbiased account of the Cuba-US relationship. This is far better than the Moon guide, the only exception is that the maps try and cram a lot in a small place -bigger maps please. But this is an minor grumble. I travelled around Cuba by myself speaking no Spanish and found my LP to be my second-best friend (after my Cuban hosts). Go to Cuba & take LP with you." Before buying a Holiday Apartment in Cuba, I would read this book. |

| The Rough Guide to Cuba (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"This guide is not bad at all. It's up-to-date, but I found some inaccuracies in it (like the distance between Holguin and Guradalavaca). We used this guide as a backup for the Moon Handbook, which is a bit outdated, but is much more extensive and better written." This book has best information on Cuba, well worth reading if you buying a Vacation House in Cuba. "This guide book is not as reliable as others in this normally excellent series. It tends to over-rate some of the sights - such as the comically old-fashioned Camilo-Che room in the Museum of the Revolution, and the restaurant recommendations are often wayward. The text often contradicts itself, and among the unmissable recommendations at the beginning of the book there are sights which are hardly remarkable. This being said it is the most thorough guide book for Cuba, and is awash with listings." Before buying a Alternative Holiday Casa in Cuba, I would read this book while in Cuba. |

| Waking Up in Cuba (Waking Up in) (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"A well-informed and well-written book about Cuba and its music. Stephen Foehr is clearly a man who likes talking to people and he finds an enormous variety of interesting and knowledgeable people to talk to (although his exchanges with Havana’s statue of John Lennon are inevitably rather one-sided!) The book gives a very readable overview of Cuban music and its relationship with life and society. He appreciates that nothing in Cuba is entirely straightforward but his affection for the country and its people shines through." This book has best information on Cuba, well worth reading if you buying a Holiday House in Cuba. "I really enjoyed this book. I love the author's sense of curiousity and his honest attempt to blend in and view things from a typical Cuban perspective. DANCING WITH FIDEL is a small in size but large in terms of the amount of ground it covers. The author provides an insightful overview of the past, present and future of Cuban music and culture. Kudos to the author for allowing us to participate in his Cuban odyssey." This book has fantastic information on Cuba, well worth reading if you buying a Vacation Apartment in Cuba. |

| Cuba: From Columbus to Castro and Beyond (Book)Customer Rating: Reviews:
"Illiterate racists might suggest that "what should be done they should look to their future in America or else renounce their American citizenship and go back to the Cuba." Others who are pro-leftist/socialist/communist might venture into the realm of suggesting that Professor Suchlicki "descends into a series of personal opinions and observances peppered with historical facts." A simple web search on the author's name will show many more credentials than simply being "an adviser to officials in the Bush administration." A brilliant account narrated by one of the few historians not marred by leftist bias." If you are thinking about buying a Alternative Vacation Casas in Cuba, I would buy this book to take with you while in Cuba. "With developments in Cuba moving faster, this book provides the reader with a clear and informative perspective on the past. I'm struck by the numerous miscalculations that have been made by people on all sides of the Cuba issue. Anyone seeking an informed view of Cuba and the US-Cuba relationship should read this book." If you are thinking about buying a Vacation Casas in Cuba, I would buy this book to take with you while in Cuba. "This book does nothing more than give an academic look at an already easily solvable problem. Get over it the wealthy former-Cubans deserted the island and rather than sit back in their stylish Miami homes and quip and complain about what should be done they should look to their future in America or else renounce their American citizenship and go back to the Cuba." A wealth of information about Cuba, a great book if you are thinking about buying a Alternative Vacation Alternative Vacation property in Cuba. |
